Applicants for a Combined Hackney Carriage & Private Hire Driver’s Licence to work on a local circuit will be required to undergo a knowledge test.
An applicant will be allowed to take a maximum of four tests. If by the fourth attempt they are unsuccessful, they will be required to wait 6 weeks before re-sitting the test; each test will incur a fee of £20.
Details of the knowledge test are set out below: -
- Roads
An applicant will be required to know the roads at either end of a given road from any part of Rochford District Council area; it could be a main road, a through road or a minor road. A good knowledge of the area is essential. - Routes
An applicant is required to describe how they would travel from
A to B using the shortest route keeping to roads in the district of Rochford. A good knowledge of the area is essential. - Places of interest
An applicant is required to identify the locations of pubs, clubs, hotels, restaurants, parks, public buildings and historic sites etc. in the Rochford District area. A good local knowledge is essential. - Highway code
These questions are based on the rules of the Highway Code including signage. Applicants will need to familiarise themselves with the Highway Code. - Licence Conditions
This section is based on the Council’s pre-licensing and licensing conditions relating to drivers. Applicants will need a good understanding of the Council’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver’s Licence Conditions.
