Overcrowded Allocation

Overcrowded Allocation

  1. The bedroom allocation is set out in Rochford District Council (RDC) Allocations Policy.
  2. This bedroom standard will be applied when an application is made to the council.
  3. When deciding on the applicant bedroom need, reference to the Allocation Policy must be adhered to.
  4. If an applicant requests an extra bedroom due to medical reasons, supporting evidence must be provided.
  5. The officer should also consult with the Revenues and Benefits team before agreeing to allocate an extra bedroom to ensure the applicant would be entitled to LHA for the extra bedroom. There are separate criteria for LHA.
  6. The officer will then contact the applicant and inform them of their decision in writing and explain their right to review if the applicant does not agree with the decision.
  7. In certain cases an application maybe referred to the Private Sector Housing Officer who will carry out an HHSRS Assessment
