Major changes are planned to councils across Greater Essex as part of the largest reorganisation of local government in over 50 years and this week, Rochford District Council have launched a survey to gauge the views of residents on which areas of Essex they feel more aligned with.

Rochford District Council has awarded more than £44,000 in funding to support a range of local initiatives that celebrate and enhance arts, culture and heritage across the district.

Rochford District Council is proud to join the nationwide celebration of Love Parks Week, a campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy running from 25 July to 3 August 2025. The initiative encourages people of all ages to step outside, reconnect with nature and enjoy the many benefits of our local parks and green spaces.

A new 3-month trial offering 30 minutes of free parking in council owned pay and display car parks has been announced - with the exception of Hockley Woods and The Approach, Rayleigh.

Our heartfelt condolences are still very much with the family, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives in the air accident at London Southend Airport. As you would expect, and want us to do - we offered our support to all the organisations involved, including the airport.

“We are here to represent our residents and I want to give our residents the best chance of a future unitary model that they could support”. That is the view of the Leader of Rochford District Council following this week’s meeting of Full Council, where councillors agreed to a series of in-principle recommendations. One of which is to investigate an option not currently on the table - a four unitary council model in Greater Essex, where Rochford would form a new unitary council with Maldon, Chelmsford and Brentwood to create a new Mid Essex unitary council.

Nominations are now open for the Rochford District Council and Brentwood Borough Council 2025 Sports awards. The sports awards celebrate the achievements of athletes, coaches, volunteers and teams who have made significant contributions to sports in our community. 

A total of 11 athletes from across Rochford have been accepted onto Everyone Active's Sporting Champions scheme for 2025.

Mental health took the spotlight in Rochford District last Sunday as Chairman Councillor Jo McPherson officially launched her Civic Year fundraising campaign at the annual Chairman’s Garden Party. 

From October, residents across Rochford will be able to recycle their food waste separately, thanks to a new collection service being introduced throughout the District.
