You can help shape future improvements to the play area at Sweyne Park in Rayleigh by taking part in Rochford District Council’s consultation.

The consultation is part of the Council’s five-year plan to maintain and improve play areas across the district. Now in its second year, the plan sets out the capital investment needed to keep these important community spaces safe, inviting and up to date.

Sweyne Park has been allocated a £60,000 budget for improvements. Although the playground received significant updates in 2016 and 2018, further investment is needed over the coming years to replace ageing equipment and maintain safety surfacing. This will help ensure the play area remains a fun and appealing place for children for the long term.

The purpose of the consultation is to understand how local people use the site and what equipment or features they would like to see. This information will help guide the design and tendering process, ensuring the Council delivers improvements that offer the best value for money and meet the needs of the children and families who use the park most.

Councillor Roger Constable, Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Committee at Rochford District Council, said: “Sweyne Park is a much-loved space in our community, and we want the play area to continue to be somewhere that children enjoy and parents trust. While past upgrades have made a real difference, we know more is needed to keep the space safe, modern, and engaging. Hearing from residents is essential - their voices will help shape the next chapter for this popular park.”
