Rochford District Council launches Budget and Priorities Survey

Date

Rochford District Council is asking residents to share their views on the council’s priorities and how it spends its money, raises income, and sets council tax for the year ahead.

Every year, the council must agree a balanced budget. This means making sure the money spent on services matches the money available. The council’s income comes from council tax, business rates, grants it can bid for, and money it can raise itself.

In 2025/26, the average Band D household will pay £2,268.00 in Council Tax. Of this amount, Rochford District Council receives just £267.66 to help fund the services it provides.

The council’s Corporate Plan sets out its ambitions for the district through three key themes:

  • Communities and Homes – thriving and resilient communities that feel safe, supported and engaged.
  • Places and Spaces – a diverse and sustainable environment that enables everyone to live life to the full.
  • Economy and Prosperity – an inclusive economy that supports business growth, jobs and tourism.

Residents are being asked which of these priorities matter most to them, and whether the council should spend less, more, or the same on different services. (Please note Rochford District Council does not provide social care, education services or highways).

Councillor Danielle Belton, Leader of Rochford District Council and Chair of the Strategy, Finance & Policy Committee, said: “We want to hear from as many residents and local businesses as possible. The decisions we make about the budget affect every household and business in our district. Your views will help us to shape our spending priorities and ensure we continue to deliver services that matter most to you, even in these financially challenging times.”

The survey is available online through our Engage with us consultations page and closes on Sunday 26 October.

For those without internet access, paper copies can be collected from the council’s reception at Rochford Library, Roche Close. Paper copies can also be requested by emailing customer.comments@rochford.gov.uk.

Feedback from the survey will be used by councillors to help set the budget and council tax for 2026/27, and to review the council’s Corporate Plan priorities.
