Chairman’s garden party raises funds and awareness for mental health charity

Date

Mental health took the spotlight in Rochford District last Sunday as Chairman Councillor Jo McPherson officially launched her Civic Year fundraising campaign at the annual Chairman’s Garden Party. This year’s campaign highlights two issues that the Chairman wants to raise awareness about and funds for - men’s mental health and teenage mental health.

Over 100 guests, including community volunteers attended the event, held in the gardens of The Lawn in Rochford, which also featured live music from local singer Joe Palmer.

The event featured a charity raffle, which raised over £1,100, with all proceeds going to South East and Central Essex Mind (SECE Mind). As part of her role, Councillor McPherson has chosen SECE Mind as one of her supported charities this year and is working with the organisation to raise awareness of the work that they do and also raise much needed funds for local mental health services across the district.

Councillor McPherson, Chairman of Rochford District Council said: “I am passionate about making a real difference in the lives of people across our district, especially when it comes to mental health. By supporting SECE Mind, I hope we can strengthen the work already being done and help ensure more people can access the support they need. I’d like to thank everyone who attended the Garden Party and contributed to such a successful and meaningful fundraising launch. Your support is not only appreciated but essential to the impact we hope to make this year”

David Sollis CEO of South East and Central Essex Mind added, “It’s fantastic being the Chairman’s chosen charity. As individuals and as a country, we are currently facing a lot of challenges and strains on our mental wellbeing. I’m looking forward to working with the Chairman and her team to help provide the best possible services for the community.”
