Chairman’s Christmas Message 2023

As we approach the joyous holiday season, I would like to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. Merry Christmas!

Reflecting on the events of 2023, I feel extremely honoured to have been chosen by my colleagues to serve as the Chairman of Rochford District Council.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is having the opportunity to meet local residents and organisations that work so hard to make a difference in our District. I am truly fortunate to have been invited to numerous events, both locally and throughout Essex, in support of various commendable initiatives.

This year has seen the opening of several new businesses in our community. I am pleased to have participated in the openings of Beauty and Aesthetics by Karina, as well as Bianca’s Boutique and QD. These new ventures are a valuable addition to our community, and I extend my best wishes to them for the coming year.

The Civic Carol Service, held at St Andrew’s Church in Rochford, was a highlight. We were fortunate to have a good turnout, with dignitaries from across Essex attending and displaying their best singing voices. Special thanks must go to the Chairman’s Chaplain, Rev. Kim Lepley, for leading an engaging and entertaining service, and to the dedicated volunteers at St Andrew’s Church for their hard work in ensuring the event's success.

In the next five months of my Chairmanship, I will be recognising some of our unsung heroes through the Citizen of the Year Awards. I am looking forward to meeting many more of the remarkable people who make me proud to serve as Chairman in our District.

I would be honoured to support and celebrate your achievements in person. If you would like to invite me to share an event with you, please contact the Civic Officer by email: civic.officer@rochford.gov.uk or visit the Chairman’s page on the Rochford District Council website to complete an engagement form.

If you know someone deserving of recognition for going above and beyond, help me acknowledge their hard work by nominating them for Citizen of the Year at www.rochford.gov.uk/citizenoftheyear

Let it be known that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well in our community. We are grateful for the acts of kindness and generosity that we have seen throughout the year, and we hope that this holiday season brings joy and happiness to all.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a joyous 2024!

Cllr Jack Lawmon

Chairman of Rochford District Council
