Chairman invites residents to Holocaust Memorial Day Service

The Chairman of Rochford District Council, Cllr Mike Steptoe, is inviting residents of the Rochford District to attend the Council’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day Service, on Friday 27th January.

This day marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. This annual event also pays tribute to the victims of other genocides that have occurred around the globe.

The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is Ordinary People. It encourages everyone to reflect on the depths that humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities resisted that darkness to ‘be the light’ before, during and after genocide.

Cllr Mike Steptoe said: “It important to commemorate all victims of persecution around the world on this memorable occasion. By coming together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, we can send the message that Rochford District rejects hate in all its forms.”

The service will be held on 27th January 2023 at the Mill Arts and Events Centre, Rayleigh. Starting at 12.30pm, the service will be hosted by the Chairman’s Chaplain, Rev Kim Lepley.

Places will be limited. If you would like to attend this free event, please either call or email the Civic Officer at civic.officer@rochford.gov.uk or on 01702 318143.
