Start planning ahead to celebrate the Kings Coronation

31 January 2023

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place Saturday 6th May with Bank Holiday Monday on 8th May.

The UK has a long and proud history of organised street parties to celebrate national events.

If you and your neighbours are planning a street party to mark this historic occasion, you need to start preparing now.

If you would like to organise your own street party you will need to apply for a road closure at least 6 weeks before the date of the event.

Visit our licencing teams events page where you can find helpful tips and information on how to organize a street party.

Cllr Arthur Williams, Portfolio Holder for Communities, housing & Health said:

“We know that many residents are eager to celebrate and pay tribute to King Charles III by taking part in local events across the district in his honour. We want to do all we can to make the process of organising a street party as simple as possible and ensure our local celebrations are happy and safe events".

The bank holiday will fall on Monday 8 May, following the Coronation on Saturday 6 May.

Keep an eye on the Official Royal Family's website for any national events or local events near you.

Note: If you are organising a street party and want a road to be closed, you will need to complete a simple application form, which you can find on our website site, and email back to us before Friday 17 March 2023.
