Updates from Rochford District Council:

We need your continued support during this difficult time as some of our compostable collection services have been affected due to reduced staffing levels.

Please prioritise your green bins for food waste.

We are working hard to maintain a normal bin collection service in accordance with our usual schedule and from the compliments we receive for our waste crews, we know that residents really appreciate their efforts.

To ensure that we continue to keep our refuse and recycling collections going, it will sometimes be the case that we are not able to collect green waste bins as planned. Once the collection round has taken place in your road we will not be able to return for one off collections.

Please continue to put your bins out in the normal way,  placed at the boundary of your property by 7am on your collection day. If we don’t pick up your green waste bin as expected, please bear with us, as we have had to prioritise refuse and recycling collections.

We would encourage residents to only put essential food waste into the green bins rather than garden waste, this will greatly help us maintain our normal bin collection services for as long as possible.

This might be the perfect opportunity to try your hand at home composting your garden waste as much as possible. Ideas on how to home compost and details of special offers on buying a home composter can be found on the Love Essex website,

Following the Government’s advice on helping to stop the spread of COVID-19 we have taken the difficult decision to close the reception areas at the Council offices, in South Street, Rochford, and the Civic Suite in Rayleigh, to the public until further notice from Monday 23 March.

Our opening hours are 08:30 until 17:00 Monday - Friday however the live web chat has been extended outside of these hours as much as possible.
This is a difficult decision for us to make but it will allow us to focus our resources in our Customer Services Department, to assist residents at this difficult time. Support and advice will be available to anyone in difficulty. Residents can also still access many services online, such as reporting a missed bin/issue with litter/breach of planning and continue to make payments online.
