Rochford District community projects benefit from £100k investment
Community projects in the Rochford district have been boosted by £100,000 of vital funding over the past four years.
Since 2016, Sanctuary Housing has supported more than 125 initiatives across the district as part of its community investment programme.
The national social housing provider has invested around £80,000 over the four-year period in a wide variety of projects that have benefitted hundreds of local people, such as health and well-being courses and budgeting skills classes.
A further £20,000 has been made available through Maureen’s Gift, a resident legacy fund set up in the name local community champion Maureen Vince to help support communities throughout the District.
Sanctuary is currently supporting a number of local projects in support of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has included contributions to food collection services for vulnerable people across the district, the purchase of arts and crafts materials for residents at housing for older people schemes, and a valuation donation to the Rochford PPE Project to produce protective clothing for key workers.
The funding is part of Sanctuary’s commitment to the Rochford District following the transfer of the ownership of homes from Rochford Housing Association four years ago.
Akin Oyefeso, Sanctuary’s Housing Services Manager in Rochford, said: “Building strong communities where people choose to live is hugely important to Sanctuary and this significant investment has enabled that to happen.
“I believe this money has made a lasting impact within the Rochford District community and we’re pleased to be currently playing our part in the local response to Covid-19 by supporting further vital projects which are helping those most in need.”
Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Community, Cllr Mike Webb, added: “This investment has made a real difference to some of the most vulnerable people in the Rochford District and has provided access to a variety of projects within the local community.
“We continue to develop a strong working relationship with Sanctuary and one which I hope will continue into the future.”
