Rochford District’s new Chairman confirms nominated charity
Rochford District Council’s new Chairman, Cllr Mrs Lesley Butcher, has announced that the charity she will support during her time in office is the Aaron Lewis Foundation.
Each year, the incoming Chairman of Rochford District Council nominates one or more charities which they will promote and raise money for during their time in office. This year’s Chairman has chosen the locally based Aaron Lewis Foundation.
Cllr Mrs Butcher said: “I chose this charity because it was set up by the family and friends of the late Lieutenant Aaron Lewis, who was from Rochford. I am told that Aaron became a soldier because he wanted to make a difference in the world and help those in need. However, Aaron was sadly killed in action on his first operational deployment, therefore friends and family set up the Foundation, which supports a wide range of local and military causes all around the country, in order to continue making a difference in Aaron’s name”.
Helen Lewis, Aaron’s mother and founder of the Aaron Lewis Foundation, said: “We are delighted and honoured, and would like to thank Cllr Mrs Lesley Butcher for choosing The Aaron Lewis Foundation as her adopted charity. Our team and supporters work continuously through the year to organise events and raise funds in Aaron’s memory, and this support gives us an enormous boost for the work we are doing”.
