The Christmas Lights Switch on Event will be held this year on Thursday 29th November between 4.00pm and 6.30pm. Please note that the High Street will be closed at the top of Crown Hill from 1.45pm until 9.00pm. Access to the Bellingham Lane car parks will continue until 3.45pm. There will be no taxis in the Rank after 1.00pm, however provision will be made available in Bellingham Lane outside HSBC and side of the WI Hall for pick up only. Signs and posters around the town will display alternative arrangements for taxis and bus diversion routes. Wheelchair users will be allowed access into the marquee area to view the event; if interested, it would be appreciated if you could contact the Town Council prior to the event.
They will have all of our usual attractions at this year’s event, including a festive market, fun fair rides and Father Christmas with his sleigh. BBC Essex presenters Steve Scruton and Ian Wyatt will be on stage with popular local singer Joe Palmer, Southend United Football Club players, the Mushroom Theatre Company and all of our primary and senior school choirs. They will also hold our usual competitions including: BTMK Todmans Solicitors Colouring competition and ‘Design the Chairman’s Christmas Card’. The winners of both competitions will be invited up on stage to collect their prizes. The event is very popular and they advise all who can to leave the car at home for the evening of festivities. Look out for more details in the local press.
Our ‘Best Shop Window’ competition is open to Charity and Commercial shops and will be judged after the event in December along with our new category for ‘Best Festive Public House’ display. This competition has been sponsored by Palmers Solicitors again this year.
Show your pride in your home town by purchasing a badge displaying the town’s crest from the Town Council. Each badge costs £3.00 and profits go towards helping to fund the Christmas Lights.
BTMK Todmans, Rayleigh Chamber of Trade and Marco’s Bar have all very kindly agreed to be the main sponsors for the event. Please contact the Town Council if you also wish to sponsor the event and your logo will be displayed on our banner and in local press with all other sponsors.
