Volunteers, working to keep the District clean and tidy, helped Rochford District Council issue a fine for littering after they found a discarded, addressed cardboard box dumped beside recycling banks at Clement Hall Leisure Centre.

The council issued a £100 fine, which was paid within 10 days so reduced to £50.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Dave Sperring said: “Dropping litter is completely unacceptable and something we do not tolerate. I would like to thank the group of litter pickers who reported this to us, working together we will tackle this issue head on.

“If anyone has any information about fly tipping, or would like to report an incident,  please report using our online form or call us on 01702 318111"
