Larger home extensions: new prior approval submission requiring Neighbour Consultation Scheme
From the 30 May 2013 new legislation came into force allowing larger single storey rear extensions to be built under permitted development.
For a period of three years, between 30 May 2013 and 30 May 2016, householders are able to build larger single-storey rear extensions under permitted development and this period has now been extended for a further three years until 30 May 2019. The size limits have been doubled from 4 metres to 8 metres for detached houses, and from 3 metres to 6 metres for semi-detached and terraced houses.
The size limits are subject to a Prior Approval submission to the Council requiring a neighbour consultation. To find out more about the new size limits and the neighbour consultation scheme, please see the related content.
