It has never been easier to join the electoral register

To ensure we hold the correct details on our electoral register we undertake an annual canvass of all households in the district each year to produce a revised register in December.

The council writes to every household in the District asking them to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct.

If you do not receive a form or you require help completing any of the forms you receive, please contact the Electoral Services team by phone on 01702 318187 or by email elections@rochford.gov.uk

If there are no changes to the occupants printed on the form residents can register easily using text message or the Freephone service available on the front of the form.

If there are changes, we would encourage residents to use the website address on the front of the form to add, delete or amend the details of who resides at the property.

Rochford District Council’s Strategic Director and Returning Officer, Angela Hutchings said: “Joining the electoral register really has never been easier or more convenient. Many people don’t realise that it is compulsory to fill in the annual voting registration form and that if you don't, you could go to court, be fined up to £1,000 and get a criminal record. It is important to remember that only those registered as electors can vote. If you aren't registered you can't help decide who represents you or your local area or nationally.”
