Information about bird scarers

Gas powered bird scarer’s sound like a thud, bangs, or double bangs similar to shot gun fire. Most operate on a timer or dusk to dawn sensor.

There are guidelines issued by the National Farmers Union about where and how they can be used, to try and avoid causing noise problems.

Birds scarers are being used short term to try and protect crops while they are vulnerable to birds. This is a very serious problem at the moment, with one farmer reporting over 50% of his bean crop damaged, or eaten.

Use of birds scarers may cause some inconvenience for a short while but it is an inevitable consequence of living next to or close by to a functioning farm growing crops.
