Have your say on the Budget Survey!
Residents and businesses have the opportunity to tell Rochford District Council about their future spending priorities, by taking part in the budget survey.
Your views are essential, as they will help the Council make the right decisions as it sets its financial plans for future years. We need to know about the services that matter to YOU so please go to our Budget Survey and give us your thoughts by the deadline of Sunday 12 January.
Rochford District Council spends more than £15 million each year providing a diverse range of services including:
- Recycling and Waste Collection
- Street Cleansing
- Accommodation for the Homeless
- Leisure Services
- Planning Services
- Building Control Services
- Parks and Open Spaces
- Safeguarding and Community Safety
We need your views on how we deliver these key services in the future as we face increasing financial constraints.
Central government grants used to make up 41% of the total funding for Rochford; however, these are now zero. In addition, the Council continues to face inflationary pressures and increasing demand for public services, which creates an expected difference between the level of funding available and the amount of money the Council needs to spend (called the budget gap), of around £1.4m by 2024/25.
Between 2010 and 2019 Rochford District Council has delivered a range of efficiencies totaling around £5.2m whilst continuing to deliver the key services that you have told us that you value. An additional £0.4m of savings are planned to be achieved in the 2019/20 financial year.
Rochford District Council is also working to refresh its Business Plan, so it more accurately reflects the big issues that affect us all. As part of the survey, we would be grateful for residents’ views on this plan, including any ideas for increased joint working with the community, to help us best plan our use of resources.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Mike Steptoe, said:
“It remains a challenging time for the Council as we continue to drive towards financial sustainability and find new and efficient ways of delivering high quality services.
The Council is taking innovative steps to achieve this through programmes such as our Asset Strategy, which is designed to regenerate the district, reduce future costs and generate revenue income streams through the redevelopment of six strategic sites owned by the Council. It is also updating its Business Plan to reflect our future priorities”

1. The survey is available online, simply go to our Online Form.
2. Hard copies of the survey will also be available in the reception areas of the Rochford District Council offices in South Street, Rochford and the Rayleigh Civic Suite in Hockley Road, Rayleigh, by Friday 20 December
3. Hard copies of the survey will also be available in libraries across the District by Friday 20 December.
