With the impact of rising bills, the government will be providing £100 million of new grant funding in 2023-24. This money will be issued to local authorities to support households on a low income with their Council Tax payments.
The government expects local authorities to use most of the funding to reduce the bills for current Council Tax Support customers by up to £25.
The discount should apply to current Council Tax Support customers. To qualify the customer must have an outstanding Council Tax charge for the 2023-24 financial year. If after Council Tax Support, a customer’s charge for 2023-24 is less than £25, then their liability would be reduced to nil. There is no need to make a claim for the support. If a customer is in receipt of Council Tax Support, the discount will automatically be added to the bill
