Council Tax Bill for Rochford residents agreed for 2021/2022

The final Council Tax bill for Rochford residents has now been agreed for 2021/2022.

Rochford District Council agreed its budget for the next financial year on 16 February; however, the elements of the Council Tax that will be collected on behalf of other authorities have now also been finalised.

Rochford District Council announced last week that there will be a 2.1% rise in their share of Council Tax which equates to an increase of £4.95 per year for the average Band D property, or 10 pence per week.

Essex County Council has agreed a 1.5% increase due to the Social Care Levy. Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner has announced a rise of 4.98%, Essex County Fire & Rescue a 0% rise and the average town/parish council increase across the district equates to 0.99%.

Leader of Rochford District Council, Cllr Simon Wootton, said:

“The budget pressures under which local government operates remain significant and this authority has looked at all opportunities to make efficiency savings and generate new sources of revenue.

“Increasing council tax is not a decision we take lightly. Rochford District Council remains committed to providing excellent value for money services to our residents and businesses. With this in mind we are doing all we can to deliver innovative and high-quality services which will continue to support the district’s recovery as we come out of the pandemic.”

Ultimately, residents in the Rochford District will face an average increase of 1.9% in their total Council Tax for the 2021/2022 financial year, amounting to a total bill of £1,915.79 for the average band D property. The total will vary across the district due to the different precepts taken by Town and Parish Councils.

The breakdown of annual Council Tax for a Band D property in 2021/22 will be:-

Essex County Council - £1204.92

Essex County Council Social Care Levy - £135.99

Essex County Fire and Rescue - £73.89

Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner - £208.53

Average Town / Parish Councils - £52.25

Rochford District Council - £240.21
