Essex Adult Community Learning

Adult Community Learning Essex (ACL) is an award winning training organisation offering a wide range of learning opportunities for adults and businesses in Essex including apprenticeships. Schooling in the District

Essex County Council provide education in the Rochford District area, including curriculum and management support and can provide advice, guidance and support to you on a range of school related issues.

Applying for a school place

Home to school transport

Essex County Council provides transport for children to attend their local school or a nearer school where that school is 2 miles or more from the home or 3 miles or more if the child is aged 8 years and above. The latter applies from the point at which the child starts Year 4 or primary education. Links to more information are in the Related Content section.

School Governors

Essex County Council are responsible for organising Governors for schools across Essex.

The ultimate goal of school governors is to raise achievement for every learner, widen participation and create a more socially inclusive community.

Funding for pupils

Essex County Council can provide support to families through free school meals, help towards the cost of a uniform in exceptional circumstances only, help with school or college transport if you are over 16 and funding if you want to stay on at school after 16.

Funding may be available for the following:

  • Free school meals
  • Post 16 transport
  • Learner Support
  • Uniform Grants and Necessitous Clothing Allowance
  • Post 16 Transport for Special Educational Needs Students
