Communities take the lead in keeping local areas clean and tidy
The community of Canewdon have come together to clean up their streets and parks by organising volunteer litter picking events.
Litter picking events, are a great show of teamwork and can involve a range of age groups and help to bring communities together.
Rochford District Council supports events which take place throughout the district and is able to supply a set of equipment including a litter picker, rubbish bags, bag hoops and safety guidance as well as arranging to collect the bagged rubbish afterwards.
Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Arthur Williams said: “I would like to thank everyone who gives up their own time to come along to help with the litter picks. I would especially like to thank McDonalds who have allowed staff to take part during their working day so they can help us tackle this issue.
“Events like this are what the Love Where You Live campaign is all about and I would encourage as many people as possible to come forward and volunteer to do something to help their community.”
If you take part in a similar event please use the hashtag #CommunityLitterPick, tag us in on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts (RochfordDC) and we’ll share your efforts. You can contact the Council at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange to borrow equipment.
