Rochford District Council will be planting 73 trees in verge locations in London Road, Hockley Road, High Road and Hullbridge Road in Rayleigh.

This is the second year of a five year project fully funded by the Council to enhance the urban landscape of the District. Council officers will be working with colleagues from Essex County Council to consult with appropriate residents and statutory undertakers.

The container grown specimens are a combination of native and non-native specimens and include Paper Bark Birch, Pissard’s Plum, Oak, Field Maple and Snowy Mespil.

Portfolio Holder for the Environment Councillor Michael Starke said “The trees will enhance the area and have been selected on the basis that they best suit the locality and are aesthetically pleasing for residents. This is a further example of the investment that the Council is making to secure our position as one of the greenest local authorities in the country.”

The trees will be planted during November and December 2009.
