Last October Rochford District Council launched its ClimateCO2de strategy, outlining the way we intend to combat climate change.

One of the projects was a thermal imaging trial which provided residents with a free thermal image of their property and a report which shows what heat leaking from homes looked like to encourage people to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.

More than 70 people took part in the trial. One of them, Lesley Bridges from Keswick Avenue in Hullbridge
was pleased the image confirmed the hard work she had done to help save energy, was worth it.

She said “We signed up for the scheme because we were interested to find out if we had lagged our loft sufficiently to eliminate heat loss and therefore reduce our heating bills and to see if there were any other areas that we could improve upon.

“The image we received was great to see as it showed that we had indeed managed to achieve what we had set out to do”.

The scheme aims to encourage people to improve the energy efficiency of their home by carrying out simple measures such as draft proofing, drawing curtains at dusk or considering cavity wall or loft insulation.

Thermal imaging will be back at the end of 2010, however, new projects are taking place throughout the year.
