The Environment Agency is assessing the designs of two new nuclear reactors and are seeking comments on their views so far, as this can help inform their decision.
Power stations are proposed at Sizewell in Suffolk and Bradwell in Essex.
Power companies will propose new reactor designs and a process called ‘Generic Design Assessment’, or GDA, allows the Environment Agency to assess them at an early stage in the process and so identify any problems at a time when they can most influence improvements. Two types of reactor are being reviewed – the Westinghouse designed AP1000™ and the Areva/EDF designed UK EPR™, which is proposed at Sizewell.
A consultation is being held between 28 June and 18 October and you can take part.
