The former Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Tony Humphries, ended his year in office by presenting thousands of pounds to local charities which he raised over the last 12 months.

During his time as the Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Humphries raised more than £13,000 for a variety of good causes including Havens Hospices, Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh, Rochford and Hockley Hawkwell Methodist Churches.

The money had been raised by holding a variety of events such as Charity Golf Day, quiz nights and a Burns Night.
Speaking at the ceremony, Councillor Humphries said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my year in office and met many wonderful residents from our District who do amazing work for charity.

It is a humbling experience to meet people who do so much great work in the community and I’m so glad that I could raise this amount of money for charity along the way”

The majority of the money raised was presented to Hilary Metcalfe on behalf of Havens Hospice. Cheques were also presented to Reverend Brenda Gutberlet, Rayleigh Methodist Church, Hockley/Hawkwell Methodist Church and Rochford Methodist Church, Reverend Mike Lodge from Holy Trinity Church, also received a donation.
