Young people from across the District put together a fashion show of designs made from recycled materials culminating in a catwalk show at the Adult Community College in Rochford.
The show was part of a project to encourage creativity amongst youngsters whilst raising their awareness of environmental issues. The young people learnt a range of skills including design, pattern cutting and garment construction.
Project co-ordinator and designer Becky Abrams said “This has been another brilliant project; the standard of design from these young people has been very high. The catwalk show was an opportunity to display their amazing designs and all of their hard work to friends, family and special guests.”
The Leader of Rochford District Council, Councillor Terry Cutmore presented certificates after the show. He said “The amount of hard work and creativity that has gone into these designs and into the fashion show is highly commendable. I am very impressed with the amount of talent that there is amongst the young people of the District”.
The fashion project is the third of its kind that has been delivered in the District and so far 150 young people have been involved.
The project is supported by Rochford District Council, Rochford Extended Schools, Essex Police and V-Inspired and it is funded by Youth Opportunity Fund and Vcashpoint and it is hoped that there will be further fashion projects in the future.
