Rochford District Council meets Government’s food standards

Posted on 11 May 2009 by admin

Would you want to eat out and buy food from businesses that are not properly and regularly inspected? Well you can rest assured when you dine and shop in Rochford District, because the Council’s Food Service has received a very favourable audit report from the Food Standards Agency on its use of contractors for doing food hygiene inspections.

Rochford District Council has used contractors since 2002 to supplement its food safety service by using them to carry out food hygiene inspections, with all follow up action of revisits, sampling and formal enforcement action being taken by its own food hygiene inspectors.

On 26 November 2008, the Food Standards Agency carried out an audit on the Council’s use of contractors for doing food hygiene inspections.

There were no issues raised or identified and no recommendations. This means that Rochford District Council’s procedures and practices for the use of contractors for food law enforcement are perfect.

Councillor Michael Starke, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said:”I am extremely pleased that our Food Service has received such a complimentary report and congratulate all the officers involved for their hard work and dedication.”
