Area Action Plans are planning policy documents which can be
used to stimulate regeneration or enhancement, guide public and
private investment within an area, protect areas particularly
sensitive to change, resolve conflicting objectives in an area
subject to development pressures, and provide robust policies
determined at a local level to ensure that future development
reflects local needs and issues.
Area Action Plans are Development Plan Documents and form part
of the Local Development Framework – a collection of documents that
will determine how the District develops in the future, over the
next fifteen years and beyond. When Area Action Plans are adopted,
planning applications will be determined having regard to the
policies in them.
The Hockley Area Action Plan will identify opportunities to
enhance the area, be used to direct future public and private
investment and set out the development that will be acceptable in
the centre of Hockley.
Following the large response to the initial round of community
involvement in early 2009 on the production of an Area Action Plan
for Hockley, the Council has revisited the potential options for
the centre of Hockley.
Potential options have been developed and these were subject to
public consultation between 30th November 2010 and 4th February
2011. The comments received during this period can be found by
selecting ‘View representations received on the Hockley Area Action
Plan Options Report’ under Related Links. This links to our online
consultation system.
A number of options were generated. These range from relatively
minor interventions to the appearance of the centre, through to
options that entail significant redevelopment. In addition, there
were also options for highway improvements, including at the Spa
Road / Main Road roundabout.
