Betts Wood
Betts Wood is a 10 acre, near level, ancient semi natural
woodland of Oak, coppiced Hornbeam, Hawthorn, Holly and Silver
Birch. A section of woodland was last coppiced 5 years ago.
This woodland is home to many animals,
birds, and insects and is filled with bluebells in the spring
time. It is a local wildlife site and is important for
biodiversity.
The woodland has free access all year and is well worth a visit
for a picnic or just to stretch your legs.

There are no toilet facilities at Betts Wood. The closest
public toilets are at Hockley Woods, Main Road, Hockley (0.5 miles)
or at Hockley Spa, Spa Road, Hockley, adjacent to Hockley Library
(0.7 miles)
There is a children’s play area adjacent to Betts Wood and
Hockley Community Centre.

Betts Wood is located at the end of Westminster Drive, Hockley
(SS5 4XD), which is next to Hockley Community
Centre.
Bus
Bus routes 7 and 8 stop in Main Road, Hockley at the junction
with Buckingham Road. Betts Wood is a short walk from the bus
stop via Buckingham Road, Westminster Drive is the 3rd
road on the left (0.36 miles)
Train
The closest train station is Hockley on the Southend Victoria
line. Betts Wood is approximately 0.75 miles from the
station. As you leave the station follow the signs towards
Hockley village centre on Spa Road. Turn right into Bramerton
Road just after Barclays Bank. Continue up this road through
the alleyway at the end into Buckingham Road. Westminster
Drive is the 3rd road on the right.
