Woodlands Book

You can purchase "The Ancient Woodlands of England: The Woods of South East Essex", by Oliver Rackham, though Rochford District Council.

In the book Dr. Rackham examines both the plants of the woods and ancient maps and records to trace the history of the woodland in the area. He shows how the mediaeval timber framed buildings of Southchurch Hall, Prittlewell Priory and the Old House in Rochford reveal clues to the way in which the woods were managed. For each wood, he examines historical evidence and explains how the trees and plants in the wood today reveal clues to its past history.

The book can currently be purchased for £5.00. You can pay over the phone with a credit or debit card by calling Customer Services on 01702 318111 or by visiting the Rochford offices and paying by cash, cheque or debit/credit card into the ATM machine and collecting the book from reception. Please note that postage and packing is £1.59 if you are not collecting the book from reception.
