Street Tree Planting 2008-2012

Rochford District Council is committed to enhancing the street scene and improving the environment of the District. The Council is working in partnership with Essex County Council to plant quality trees in locations throughout the District. The project started in 2008 and is now in its third year.

This year’s scheme is concentrating on the areas of Hullbridge, Hawkwell and Rochford. Trees will be planted at the roundabout of Hall Road and Cherry Orchard Way, Rochford; Rectory Road, Hawkwell, between Thorpe Road and Sweyne Avenue; Hawkwell Common, White Hart Lane, Hawkwell; Ferry Road, Hullbridge and Greensward Lane, Ashingdon. Plans of the sites can be found in the related documents section below.

The container grown specimens are a combination of native and non-native specimens and include Oak, Lime, Field Maple, Japanese Cherry and Amelanchier. As in previous years the trees will be looked after by the Council’s Woodlands & Open Spaces Team for the first two years before responsibility is passed to Essex County Council.

In the first year (2008/09) the Council planted over 100 trees on strategic routes in Rochford and Ashingdon. Full details of the 2008/09 planting location can be found in the related documents section below.

In the second year (2009/10) the Council concentrated on Rayleigh. Trees were planted on London Road, Hullbridge Road & Hockley Road.
