Graffiti and Fly Posting
Graffiti refers to drawings, patterns or messages that are
painted, written or carved on surfaces. Fly posting refers to the
display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture
without the consent of the owner.
Rochford District Council clears graffiti from Council owned
public spaces on a regular basis, although obscene or racist
slogans are removed within 48 hours of notification.
Graffiti removal from privately owned spaces, firstly requires
the permission of the owner. The clearance of graffiti is a free
service and not a statutory duty, therefore no time can be advised
as to when the work will be carried out. Wherever possible, we will
endeavour to keep residents informed.
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environmental Act 2005 amends the
Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 and allows Local Authority Officers
to issue fixed penalty notices.
