Fly Tipping
Fly Tipping is the illegal dumping of waste.
It can vary in scale significantly from a bin bag of rubbish to
lorry loads of waste.
It is also illegal to dispose of household waste incorrectly
under section 89 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Anyone caught fly tipping waste will face up to a £50,000 fine
and/or six months imprisonment.
What do I do if I Witness a Fly Tipping Incident?
If you have witnessed a fly tipping incident please report
on-line using the link at the bottom of the page, or contact
recycling on: 01702 318111, or the Environment Agency on 0800
807060, with the following details:
- Location
- Date
- Time
- Type of items
- Make and model of vehicle
- Registration number of vehicle
- Description of the person/s who fly-tipped the waste
- Any other information you feel would be useful to us
Why is fly tipping a problem?
- It is estimated to cost £100M -150M. every year in the UK to
investigate and clear up. The cost falls on taxpayers and private
land owners.
- Fly tipping poses a threat to humans and wildlife, damages our
environment and spoils our enjoyment of our towns and
countryside.
