Recycling for Caravans

The feasibility of the collection of a wider range of recyclable materials and the collection of compostables from Caravan sites is currently being assessed, and discussed with all the relevant authorities.

All residents should have access to recycling facilities and we hope to facilitate this in the vast majority of cases via the provision of the Maximise Recycling Scheme.

However, some residents at caravan sites have access to communal recycling bins for the collection of food and drink cans, glass and paper. These bins are emptied on a weekly basis. The recycling will be sent to be sorted, before being recycled into new materials.

How to use the communal recycling bins

Caravan sites with recycling have access to the following 3 types of bin:

  • Paper (grey bin with blue lid)
  • Glass (grey bin with white lid)
  • Cans (grey bin with grey lid)

Please place all materials loose into the appropriate bin (as clearly indicated by the label). All items should be rinsed out and clean before placing them into the communal recycling bins.

Here is a summary of the materials which are accepted in the caravan recycling bins:

Paper bin

  • Newspapers and Magazines
  • Office paper
  • Telephone directories
  • Shredded paper
  • Catalogues (please separate the cover and pages from hard backed catalogues)
  • Yellow Pages

To recycle envelopes please remove any gummed edges and any plastic windows and place them in the non-recyclables bin.

Glass bin

  • Perfume bottles
  • Broken glass jars and bottles
  • Jam jars
  • Cook-in sauce jars
  • Spirit, wine and beer bottles

Cans bin

  • Food and drink cans and tins (clean)
  • Aerosol cans (empty)
  • Foil (clean)
  • Tin lids
  • Aluminium food containers (clean)

Please do not put any of the following items in the communal recycling bin/s:

  • Black sacks or bin liners of any kind
  • Wrappers, crisp packets, plastic films or plastic packets
  • Bubble Wrap
  • Clingfilm
  • Polystyrene

These items should be disposed of in your non-recycling or refuse bin.

There are also various recycling banks located throughout the district where residents are able to recycling a wide range of materials:

  • Cans
  • Paper
  • Glass
  • Plastic bottles
  • Textiles
  • Paper based drinks and liquid food cartons

(Please note: not all sites collect all materials due to space limitations but may collect any combination of the above)
