Hazardous Waste

What is hazardous waste?

Hazardous waste is often used in the UK to generally describe waste which contains hazardous substances in a quantity liable to cause death, injury or impairment to living beings, pollution of water or an unacceptable impact on the environment, if it is not properly disposed.

Hazardous waste and special waste are sometimes used as one and the same and often includes toxic waste and clinical waste.

How do you know what is hazardous?

Most household items are not hazardous and can be recycled in your recyclables bin or disposed of through your refuse bin.
