Love Food, Hate Waste Campaign

A third of all the food we buy in Essex ends up in the bin - wasting money and contributing to climate change.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of food waste, providing us with helpful and practical hints and tips on how to enjoy the food we buy and therefore cut down on the amount of good food that ends up in landfill each year.

Food which is thrown away ends up in landfill sites, where it is left to rot in the absence of oxygen, producing the powerful greenhouse gas- Methane. The majority of this food waste could have been avoided in the first place however- by being eaten, composted or simply not bought at all.

The financial rewards for preventing food waste are also significant- saving the average household approximately £400 if it were to be avoided in the first place.
