The recycling scheme in the Rochford District consists of three
bins; one for recyclables, one for compostables and one for non
recyclables. The compostables is collected weekly along with either
the recyclables or non recyclables bin.
The recyclables that are collected from the
kerbside are glass, tins and cans, plastic, newspapers and
magazines and cardboard. The compostables that are collected from
the kerbside are green garden materials and all
food including meat, fish, dairy, cooked food and bones.
In addition, residents can also place textiles out for recycling
in bags provided by Essex Textiles.
A to Z of Recycling Materials
This facility provides information on where to dispose of
materials from your household.
Where possible, the reuse and recycling of materials should always
be considered as a prefered option. Other options are also listed
if you are unable to use the preferred option.
If a material does not appear, please contact Recycling for
advice.
This list will be continually updated with materials and items from
residents enquiries.
A to Z of Recycling Materials
Recyclables and Non-Recyclables

The Council collects recyclables from the kerbside in the grey
bin. Please place all recyclables loose into the recyclables bin
and ensure they are rinsed and clean. Bagged materials (in plastic
bags, black sacks or any bin liner) are not accepted as the sorting
machinery cannot handle them. However, loose plastic carrier bags
can be recycled in the recyclables bins.
The Council collects non recyclables in the purple lidded bin.
Non recyclables are materials which cannot be placed into either
the compostables or recyclables bin. The non recyclables bin is the
only bin that black or other bin liners can be
placed into, alternatively, items can be placed into the bin
loose.
Bulky Waste and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment)

The Council collect furniture and other bulky waste and also
electrical items from the kerbside for a charge of £15 for three
items, then £5 for additional items booked at the same time.
The furniture collected under the bulky waste scheme will be
taken to landfill, so please consider whether the items can be
reused or taken to a charity shop before you book a collection.
