Pollution and Nuisance
The Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) works towards the
Council's aims of promoting a green and sustainable environment and
improving the quality of life of its residents, workforce and
visitors through enforcement, proactive events and the provision of
advice.
Enforcement work includes investigations in to complaints of
noise, smoke, artificial lighting etc; the regulation of specified
industrial activities; and the identification and remediation of
contaminated land. Other work takes the form of pest control and
municipal funerals.
Officers from the EPU are also involved in the consultation
process for planning applications and licensing applications; the
monitoring of air quality across the District; and in responding to
local and national consultations on pollution matters (e.g.
radiation).
Lots of advice regarding the work of the EPU can be found via
the menus to the left of this page, including how to make an
Environmental Information Request and details of Officers'
involvement in health promotion events such as Environmental Health
Awareness Day and Noise Action Week.
