Thermal Imaging
The Council launched its Climate CO2de action plan in
2009, aiming to improve natural resource efficiency both within
Council operations and out in the community.
One of the first actions we took was to offer a free thermal
imaging service during Winter 2009/10. This trial service offered a
free thermal image of people’s homes and aimed to show residents
where heat was leaking from their homes in order to encourage them
to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
140 households registered an interest in the scheme, with 85
residents giving permission for their homes to be imaged as part of
the trial.
Despite a mild start to the winter and several weeks of snow,
all of the home surveys in the first thermal image service trial in
Essex were completed.
Each household was sent a report, including an image that showed
where the most heat was leaking from their homes, advising on the
best way to prevent further heat loss.
Hopefully this has encouraged residents to improve the energy
efficiency of their home by carrying out simple measures such as
draft proofing, drawing curtains at dusk or considering cavity wall
or loft insulation.
