Energy monitors
Did you know you can borrow an energy monitor from the library
in the same way you can borrow a book or a cd?
The monitors are free to loan, very simple to operate and can
show you how much electricity you are using. The monitor updates
your electricity usage every 6 seconds, allowing you to switch
appliances on and off and learn how much energy each appliance
uses. Once you know how much things cost, you can start working out
the best ways to make savings.
The monitor is very simple to operate and takes about five
minutes to set up, so you can easily see the cost of turning on the
TV or making a cup of tea. There is no cable cutting, unscrewing or
anything dangerous involved and full instructions are provided in
the box with the monitor. It is suggested families leave the device
running for a couple of days before altering their electricity use
in order to create a reliable baseline for comparison.
The energy monitor pack includes instruction booklet,
transmitter, sensor, display unit, 1 hour fast battery charger, 4 x
AAA batteries, mains adapter.
Look for the energy monitor in your nearest library or mobile
library. If you can’t see it on the shelves then just ask a member
of staff who will be able to order a monitor for you.
