Wildlife
The Rochford District Council area is home to a variety of
wildlife, ranging from the numerous birds seen daily in our gardens
and parks, through to the urban fox seen going about his business
at dusk in the streets and gardens of the district, to the shy and
rarely seen muntjac deer that inhabit some of our woodland.
Many people are delighted to see this wildlife in our district,
but occasionally some of these animals, such as foxes, badgers and
squirrels, can become a nuisance when they decide to become close
neighbours and live in or near our homes. Sometimes birds can be
also be a nuisance if they nest in inappropriate areas. For further
information and advice regarding wildlife please refer to the links
at the bottom of the page.
Other animals that sometimes cause alarm when we find them in
our gardens are snakes. All snakes (including adders) are protected
by law. Usually these animals are more frightened of us than we are
of them and will usually leave your garden of there own accord if
you leave them alone. However, if see a snake in your garden and
are concerned or would like some more information or expert advice
please visit the Froglife website in the related links at the
bottom of the page. This site will also give you advice and
information on other reptiles and amphibians in the wild.
