Animal Welfare
This section of the website deals with Animal Welfare and offers
guidance to ensure the proper care, management and handling of
animals.
The Council supports the view that all animals have a right to
life free from cruel treatment and unnecessary suffering. This
Council cannot enforce or influence every aspect of animal welfare,
but it does aim to detail those areas that the council considers
important and where it feels it can have some influence as a
responsible and representative public body.
Our Aims
To ensure that all animals within our District are afforded
protection, where possible, by the use of animal welfare
legislation and, as a responsible and representative public body,
by advising the general public on animal welfare issues.
How We Do This:
- Ensuring that stray dogs are efficiently dealt with.
- By dealing with animals that are perceived as pests in a humane
manner.
- By providing advice and information on how residents can live
in harmony with the local wildlife population.
- By ensuring that domestic animals that cause a nuisance due to
dog fouling, noise or smell are dealt with effectively.
- By distributing Rochford District Councils Animal Welfare
Charter to appropriate bodies and having it readily available for
public viewing.
- By maintaining links with the RSPCA; Local Animal Welfare
Organisations and neighbouring Local Authorities to ensure a good
exchange of information and advice.
- By providing Advice and Guidance to businesses and members of
the public.
