Chairman for Rochford District Council
Councillor Simon Smith is the new Chairman of Rochford District
Council after being elected at the Annual Council Meeting on
Tuesday 17 May.
The new Vice-Chairman of the Council is Councillor Mrs Joan
Mockford from Rayleigh who will assist Councillor Smith during his
term.
Councillor Simon Smith is a District Councillor for Rayleigh
Whitehouse Ward and has lived in the Rochford District since 1990.
He has been a District Councillor for 11 years and has also served
on Rayleigh Town Council. Councillor Smith is a father to Stuart 22
and Sarah 17 and has worked as a teacher at Sweyne Park School in
Rayleigh since it formally opened in 1997 and the Sweyne School
prior to that.
Following his election, the new Chairman of Rochford District
Council, Councillor Simon Smith, said: “It’s a great honour to be
selected for this role by my fellow councillors.
I will work hard to represent the District and use some of my
teaching skills to keep Council meetings in good order! I am really
looking forward to the next year. I know its going to be a busy
one.”
The Chairman also announced that during his year on office, he
will be raising money for several local charities.
