Play Strategy 2007 - 2012
Projects for young people are set for a boost after Rochford
District Council helped secure £200,000 of lottery cash to help
increase play services for children across the district.
The funding is the largest sum of money Rochford District
Council has received from the 'Big Lottery Fund', and the Council
is keen to see the money put to good use. The Council has
consequently been carrying out a number of consultations to find
out how the public feel the money could be best used.
In response to this local parks will be one of the first in line
to benefit from the funding, with up to five parks in the area set
for improvements. The identified parks will all receive new park
play equipment, in the form of basketball nets and other ball games
apparatus, which will help to keep local youngsters occupied.
Some of the funding will also go towards the 'play rangers'
scheme, which provides youngsters with leisure activities in parks
during school holidays. The funding will allow park ranger's
to tour the whole district, and to organise supervised activities
which will allow children to play safely in their own
neighbourhoods.
A mobile ice rink is also one of the other many activities being
planned for the district and signals exciting times ahead for local
youngsters.
