Our Performance
Following an assessment in Summer 2008 by the Audit Commission,
Rochford District Council has been re-categorised as a ‘Good’
Authority.
In reaching this conclusion, the Audit
Commission reported that the Council delivers good quality
frontline services which receive high rates of public
satisfaction. Residents' satisfaction with the Council as a
whole rates among the top 25% of English councils, despite having
one of the lowest expenditures per head of population of all the
Essex councils.
Despite being a relatively small authority,
the Audit Commission recognises the value that the Council gains
through a number of partnerships with other public sector agencies,
the voluntary and community sector and also the private sector,
ensuring that the residents of the District benefit from these
partnership arrangements.
Cllr Terry Cutmore, Leader of Rochford
District Council, states:
"This is an extremely positive report on the District Council from
the Audit Commission, which is an independent body charged with
improving economy, efficiency and effectiveness in local
government. To receive such a report represents a ringing
endorsement of all the hard work that the Conservative
administration has put into the Authority over the past few years.
There is still much to do, but this report is a welcome
acknowledgement of our progress."
What happens next?
Rochford District Council is now looking
forward to demonstrating continuing good performance under the
Audit Commission’s new style of assessment called the Comprehensive
Area Assessment (CAA). The CAA moves away from an intensive
inspection to looking at the Council overall and how we meeting
different challenges and responding to customer demand.
Councils will be assessed on many different
areas including a Use of Resources assessment and a Data Quality
assessment.
