Equalities and Diversity
With the profile of Equalities and Diversity in the work place / service industry rising dramatically over the last few years, the Council has acknowledged the importance of addressing this particular agenda, recognised the value it has on its services, and in particular, has developed its approach in line with the requirements of the Equality Standard for Local Government.
This approach has seen the Council move through the various levels of the Standard, culminating in the achievement of
Single Equality Scheme
The production of this new Single Equality Scheme was a key element in achieving Level 4 of the Equality Standard and replaced the existing separate Equality Schemes, therefore bringing together into one document an Action Plan encompassing all the strands of the Equality and Diversity agenda i.e. Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Disability, Age and Religion.
Future Development
Having now reached Level 4 of the Equality Standard, the Council is temporarily classified as “Moving towards Excellence”. Under the new framework the Council will be looking to reach the “Excellence” level and is currently in the process of producing an Action Plan that will steer this process, with the target of achievement by December 2010.
On this page you can view the Service Diversity Action plans which form part of the Single Equality Scheme. You can find these in the related documents below.
