Voting by Proxy
Proxy voting is where you appoint someone to go to the polling
station or send in a postal vote on your behalf. Your proxy is then
intended to vote in the way you direct.
You can appoint a proxy to vote for you if:
- You suffer from a physical incapacity
- Your employment or attendance on an educational course prevents
you from voting in person at the polling station
- Attending the polling station would involve a journey by air or
sea.
Proxy applications have to signed by an authorised person. For
example, an doctor, a registered nurse, warden or head of a
residential/nursing home or a person authorised to sign on behalf
of your employer or educational facility. Applications have to be
returned to the Elections Office, Council Offices, South Street,
Rochford, SS4 1BW on the statutory closing date for such
applications.
It is also possible to appoint someone to vote for you by
post. Such a person is called a postal proxy, more information can
be obtained by contacting the Election office.
