Thunderstorms and Lightning

Do not believe the myths about lightning it can strike in the same place twice, it doesn’t always strike the highest object. It will always hit the best conductor.

You may find the following useful in keeping you, your family and property safe,

When a storm is forecast:

  • unplug all non-essential electrical appliances
  • seek shelter

During the storm:

  • avoid using the phone as telephone lines can conduct electricity

  • If outside avoid water and find a low lying open place that is a safe distance from trees, poles and metal objects
  • avoid activities such as golf, rod fishing or boating on a lake
