Drugs and Alcohol
Background
In 1995 the Government published a white paper called ‘Tackling
Drugs Together’. This led to the setting up of multi-agency groups
at both strategic (often county) level, and at local level to
implement the strategy. These are known as Drug & Alcohol
Action Teams, or DAATs, and Drug & Alcohol Reference Groups, or
DARGs, respectively.
Rochford was a member of the Castle Point and Rochford Drug and
Alcohol Reference Group, or DARG until its withdrawal in May
2010.
The Rochford District Community Safety Partnership is
now responsible for delivering the Governments anti-drug and
alcohol strategies in Rochford. It meets bi-monthly and is open to
any person or agency that can help reduce the harm caused by drugs
or alcohol.
However, Rochford District has a significantly low drugs problem
compared to other national geographical areas. Nevertheless,
alcoholism, drug awareness and education do feature high on the
list of priorities.
